5.9" Hematite Replaced Petrified Tree Fern (Osmunda) Slab - Australia
This is a 5.9" wide, polished slab of a very interesting Jurassic age, petrified tree fern (Osmunda) from Queensland, Australia. It's is one of the rarest gem quality petrified woods in the world, and is a part of the Osmundaceae family of tree ferns. The dark red-brown coloration of this specimen can likely be attributed to hematite inclusions. It has been polished to a glossy finish on one side and is accompanied by an acrylic display stand.
