5.9" Polished, Fossil Coral Head - Indonesia

This is a stunning, 5.9" wide, polished fossil coral section from Sumatra, Indonesia. The polishing allows the beautiful, fossilized structure of the coral to be seen. This specimen is polished to a gloss finish on one sides and stands nicely on its own.

These corals are approximately 20 million years old and are the remains of ancient reefs thrust up into the mountains by the collisions of tectonic plates. As these corals fossilized the original organic material was replaced by silica, iron, manganese and other minerals.
