5.7" Miocene Fossil Crab (Tumidocarcinus) - New Zealand
This is a large 5.7" wide fossil crab (Tumidocarcinus giganteus) from New Zealand. It was found in a very hard concretion that was split open and then professionally prepared to further expose the carapace, legs, and claws. These crabs are getting hard to come by and take dozens of hours of preparation time due to the hardness of the rock. The preparation on this piece is quite nice.
It was collected in 2012 and has a repaired crack through the left claw and some repairs through a couple of the legs. One edge of the nodule has been cut flat for presentation.
