5.4" Pleistocene Fossil Mastodon (Mammut) Tooth - Florida
This is a large, 5.4" tall mastodon tooth from the extinct elephantine mammal, Mammut americanum. It was collected from a Pleistocene-aged deposit in Florida. The tooth is in good condition with a near complete root and gorgeous red-brown preservation. These mastodons are believed to have gone extinct for a variety of different reasons, with rapid changes in climate combined with human hunting pressure being the likely contributors.
