5.15" Spiny Drotops Armatus Trilobite - Top Quality Specimen
This is a top quality, Drotops armatus trilobite quarried near Zireg, Morocco. With somewhere around 100 free standing spines it would have been a very unappetizing dinner for it's predators.
At over 5" long it's good-sized for the species and the preparation is extremely nice. It has a natural multi-toned coloration, great eye facet preservation and the spines are all original, not composites. Restoration is minimal, mostly some touchups along repaired cracks and some shell restoration on the right cheek.
This is one of the nicest, large Drotops armatus that I've encountered.

About Trilobites
Trilobites are an extinct class of marine arthropods that thrived for nearly 270 million years, from the early Cambrian to the end of the Permian period (around 521 to 252 million years ago). They are one of the most successful and diverse groups in the history of life, with over 25,000 described species spanning a wide range of sizes, shapes, and ecological niches. Known for their distinctive, segmented exoskeletons, trilobites provide invaluable insights into the evolutionary history of arthropods and the dynamics of ancient marine ecosystems.
