40" Diplomystus & Priscacara Fossil Fish - Wall Display

This is a beautiful 40" wide plate of fossil fish from the Green River Formation ready to be hung on a wall. It includes a 12 1/2" long Diplomystus dentatus and three Cockerellites liops averaging around 5" in length. The fish were collected from the 18 inch layer of Warfield's Quarry near Kemmerer, Wyoming and have been inlaid into the rock to create a very aesthetic arrangement.

The plate has been backed by wood for stability and mounting hardware is installed, so that it is ready to be hung on a wall.

The Green River Formation of Wyoming represents an ancient lake system that existing 45-50 million years ago. The lake where the vast majority is the fossil fish come from was known as "Fossil Lake" is believed to have covered approximately 930 square miles. It had an unusual chemistry that inhibited the decay and scavenging of dead organisms while think layers of limestone and organic matter accumulated. This special set of circumstances has lead to the beautiful preservation of fish and other fossils within the Green River Formation.
