4.5" Bumpy Drotops Trilobite - Nice Preperation
This is nicely prepared 4.5" long (around curve) specimen of the large phacopid trilobite Drotops megalomanicus. One of the most striking features of this trilobites is the large schizochroal (multi-faceted) eyes which would have given it a nearly 360 degree field of vision.
The shell quality on this specimen is quite nice and the eye facets are clear. There is a calcite seam running through the right cheek and eye of the trilobite. There is less than 5% shell restoration, along repaired crack on the left hand side of the body and then the first few pleural tips on the left hand side.

How a Drotops might be found in the field, with part of the tail exposed in the broken rock. It would then be prepared using airscribes and air abrasives a process that would likely take 20+ hours for a good specimen..
