4.3" Cyathocrinites Crinoid - Crawfordsville, Indiana
This is a beautifully prepared Cyathocrinites crinoid specimen from the famous Witherspoon Quarry near Crawfordsville, Indiana. The entire specimen is 4.3" in length and displays very aestheticially on a squared off piece of of limestone. The quality of preparation on this fossil is exquisite - using skillful air-abrasion techniques under a stereo microscope.
It is believed that crinoids from the Edwardsville Formation were buried in sediment from nearby deltas during storms. The resulting siltstone deposits are soft enough that fossils can be extracted in exquisite, three-dimensional relief.
Note: There has been some restoration to the matrix and the bottom half of the stem maybe a composite.
