This is a .37" long raptor tooth from the Hell Creek Formation in Eastern Montana. It has characteristics of the species cf Paronychodon lacustris which include prominent vertical ridges on both sides of the tooth, however there are tiny serrations along the distal edge, so the identification is uncertain. Though this genus has not be formally described from the Hell Creek Formation, isolated teeth and bone material believed to be from it have been recovered.

The beautiful preservation of the enamel and lack of significant feeding wear to the tip makes this a truly interesting and exceptional specimen. Comes in an acrylic display case.

Because of its age and sedimentary composition, the Hell Creek Formation has become one of the most paleontologically studied areas in the world. 158 genera of animals and 64 genera of plants are known from the formation and new discoveries are made frequently. In addition to Tyrannosaurs, Ceratopsids, and Hadrosaurs, the formation has yielded remains of amphibians, reptiles, lizards, snakes and turtles, fish and sharks, avian and non-avian dinosaurs, and mammals. The Hell Creek Formation gives the most complete understanding of the environment just before the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction.
