3" Miocene Fossil Scallop (Pecten) - North Carolina
This is a fossil scallop (Pecten humphreysii) half collected from the Miocene age Pungo River Formation in Beaufort County, North Carolina. This half of the scallop is naturally adhered to the rock it was found on and small marine fossil fragments can be found peppered across the sandstone. This shell is in excellent condition, with no damage, and features the impression of a barnacle on one edge.
