3.9" Sliced Ammonite With Inlaid Azurite & Malachite
This is a 110 million year old ammonite fossil from Madagascar which has been cut in half and polished. Several of the chambers which were partially hollow were artistically inlaid with powdered azurite (blue) and malachite (green) to create a stunning work of art.
It comes with a pair of acrylic display stands.
Ammonites are an extinct group of marine invertebrate animals which died out at the end of the Cretaceous period. These mollusks are more closely related to living coleoids (i.e. octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish) than they are to shelled nautiloids such as the living Nautilus species.
