3.9" Polished Fossil Rugose Coral Slab - Morocco
This is a polished slab of rugose coral, collected from a Middle Devonian-aged marine deposit in Smara, Western Sahara, Morocco. Under magnification, the detailed preservation of the coral is exquisite. The entire specimen has been polished to a glossy finish and is suitable as a display piece or even a coaster.
It comes with an acrylic display stand.
This region in Western Sahara, Morocco was dominated by large stromatoporoids (sea sponges), alongside tabulate coral, solitary and colonial rugose corals, and a wide variety of reef-dwelling organisms. This diverse selection of life makes it difficult to provide an accurate genera/species identification for this coral.
