3.43" Chubutensis Fossil Tooth (Megalodon Ancestor)
This is a 3.43" long fossil tooth of Carcharocles chubutensis or Carcharocles subauriculatus a direct ancestor of the Megalodon. Megalodon evolved from this shark sometime in the Miocene. They are distinguished by having small cusps on the side of the teeth and rarely reached lengths of over 4-5 inches. This tooth is in good shape with some feeding damage to the tip and nearly all the serrations still visible.
