3.11" Pathological Otodus Shark Tooth
This is a very interesting and fossil, it's a pathalogical 3.11" long Otodus obliquus with a growth abnormality. The blade of the tooth has been heavily twisted and deformed. At 3.11" long it's a very large Otodus tooth and the preservation is extremely nice with both cusps still in intact (they usually damaged). It is still partially embedded in the matrix in which is was found.
Otodus is an extinct, giant mackerel shark that lived during the Eocene, approximately 54 million years ago. These teeth are collected during the massive phosphate mining operations in the Oulad Abdoun Basin of Morocco. While teeth of Otodus are very common fossils at the mines, large, good quality specimens are hard to find as they are often destroyed by the mining equipment.
