21.5" Fossil Tyrannosaurus (T-Rex) Metatarsal - Wyoming

This is an impressive, 21.5" long metatarsal from Tyrannosaurus Rex that was collected from the Lance (Creek) Formation of Wyoming. It comes from the right leg of the dinosaur and would have been the medial (II toe) metatarsal. True Tyrannosaurus rex material is some of the most sought after and collectable fossil material out there. The sheer size of this toe bone is mind boggling.

It is accompanied by a custom metal display stand that it sits in for aesthetic presentation. It measures 21.5" long with the widest measurements of the proximal and distal ends being 7.7" and 5.2", respectively. On the stand, the entire specimen stands 23.5" tall.

Crack repair and restoration to this bone is fairly widespread. It was a surface collected piece so the exposed side (non display side) has significant surface restoration where there was some erosion. The diaphysis has been pieced together with spots of gap fill restoration in the spaces where the bone had weathered away. The proximal end of the diaphysis has a ~1/2" section of gap fill that wraps around the anterior half of the bone. The distal end of the bone has a significant amount of restoration proximal to the point of articulation.
