2.95" Fossil Leaf (Crassidenticulum) - Montana
This is a fossil leaf (Crassidenticulum sp.) from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. This is a relatively new find: Crassidenticulum is an extinct genus of the laurel family, which include laurels, camphors, and avocados. The dark red-orange preservation contrasts well against the shale, and many of the details in the leaf can be seen in good relief. There may be some touchups to the surface of the leaf where some of it flaked onto the negative during collection.
