2.7" Dicranurus Monstrosus Trilobite
This is bizarre trilobite looks like something you might see in an Alien's movie. It's fittingly name Dicranurus monstrosus. While fakes of this trilobite abound, real examples like this one are rare. The quality of work would have easily required 25 hours of preparation time to complete. The only restoration on this specimen is some minor shell touchups, mainly on the right side of the head and where repaired cracks run through the spines (2-3%)
Dicranurus is a rare trilobite, and people often incorrectly assume it's more common than it really is because it there are so many fake specimens floating around. This is a good sized, extremely well preserved and prepared example. There is no significant restoration, just a gap filled in the matrix and some small touchups where repaired cracks run through the spines. If you looks you can see all of tiny tubercles preserved on the shell, and tiny nodes on each axial ring. These details are often destroyed in lower quality specimens.
This specimen had resided in my personal collection for the past decade.
