2.57" Lower Auriculatus Tooth - Dakhla, Morocco
This is a dagger-shaped 2.57" long tooth of the mega-toothed shark, Carcharocles auriculatus. It is believed Carcharocles auriculatus was closely related to the Megalodon but lived nearly 10-20 million years earlier.
This tooth was collected from the Late Eocene aged deposits of the Western Sahara Desert in Morocco. The serrations are pretty worn, but otherwise it's a nice tooth. Unlike this specimen nearly all of the teeth from this locality are repaired and heavily restored.
