2.5" Fossil Whale Lumbar/Caudal Vertebra - South Carolina

This is a fossil whale vertebra (distal lumbar/proximal caudal) that was collected from a river in South Carolina. It would be approximately 2.5 to 5 million years old. The two likely genus candidates of this vertebra are the pygmy sperm whale Kogiopsis sp., or the sperm whale Scaldicetus sp..
