2.45" Multi-Toned Reedops Trilobite Fossil - Morocco
This is a beautiful, naturally multi-toned, 2.45" long, Reedops trilobite collected near Ofaten, Morocco. It has a lot of surface detail including, visible, preserved eye facets. It's been prepared to remove the surrounding limestone so that it looks like it's ready to crawl off the rock. There is about 3% shell restoration, along a repaired crack through it's head.
The multi-toned coloration is caused by one area of the trilobite being closer to either a fault in the rock or the surface allowing water to leach minerals from part of the shell.

About Trilobites
Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
