2.4" Polished Agatized Fossil Coral Egg - Florida
This is a spectacular polished specimen of agatized coral from the Basin Deposits of Florida. This fossil coral is Miocene (25-32 million years) in age, and was formed when fine sediments covered shallow coral reefs. As silica-rich groundwater seeped through rock exposed as sea levels dropped, it replaced the calcium carbonate skeleton of the coral with chalcedony.
While exact identification is difficult to pinpoint, this specimen exhibits structures consistent with rugose coral. Portions of this specimen's agate pockets glow a phantasmal white-blue under short-wave UV light.
This specimen measures 2.4" tall, has been shaped and polished into an egg, and comes with an acrylic ring display stand. The polish work on this specimen is second to none.
