2.4" Fossil Weevil (Leptopius) Cocoon - Australia

This is an interesting "trace fossil" that you don't see often. It's a fossil weevil (Leptopius duponti) cocoon collected from a Holocene-aged deposit in Elliston, Australia. These cocoons, informally known as "pixie clogs", were spun by weevils in their pupae stage in order to protect them during metamorphosis. It measures 2.4" long.
