2.4" Cretaceous Fossil Turtle (Toxochelys) Hip Bone - Kansas
This is a 2.4 x 2.3" late Cretaceous aged fossil hip bone of a marine turtle (Toxochelys sp.). It was found in the Smoky Hill Chalk of the Niobrara Formation in Kansas, a very fossiliferous marine formation. It is an Ischium that has good preservation, with wear at the point of contact with the pubis and ilium, and a repaired crack where the bone would form a socket with the pubis for the femur.
