2.2" Plesiosaur Tooth In Matrix + Small Tooth
This
is a large and nicely preserved tooth from the long-necked, marine reptile Zarafasaura oceanis. It comes from the Upper Cretaceous phosphate deposits in the Oulad Abdoun Basin of Morocco. The tooth was broken when found and was repaired and remounted in it's original position on the rock. There is a second, smaller Plesiosaurus tooth and a portion of a shark tooth adjacent to the large one.
Plesiosaurs where long-necked marine reptiles with four flippers that appeared in the Triassic and died out along with the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous period. They reached quite larges sizes, some species as long at 17 meters, and caught slow moving prey. Plesiosaurs breathed air, and bore live young; there are indications that they were warm-blooded.
