This amazing specimen features a rabbit-like lagomorph (Palaeolagus haydeni) skull and limb bones with an in-situ presentation. The skull measures 2.2" long and and the entire specimen is 9.3" wide. It was collected from the Oligocene-aged White River Formation in Converse County, Wyoming. Rabbit skulls/bones are quite fragile and lightweight, and are rarely found complete. In fact, the environments that many lagomorphs inhabited were not ideal for preserving fossils.

Comes with a display stand to assist with presentation. There are a few crack repairs where the rock broke during collection.

Palaeolagus is a genus of lagomorph that resembled modern day rabbits. These small mammals had a skeleton that was very similar to rabbits, but the hind legs were shorter, suggesting that they didn't leap or hop. They lived during the Oligocene epoch and fossil records indicate that they only inhabited North America.
