2.2" Juvenile Ichthyosaur Vertebra in Rock - South Wales
This is a juvenile Ichthyosaur (Ichthyosaurus sp.) vertebra that has been partially prepped free from the rock it was found it, however some of the rock has been left behind for presentation purposes. It was collected from the Lower Lias - Planorbis Zone at Lavernock Point of South Wales.
It comes with an acrylic display stand.
Ichthyosaurs ("Fish Lizard") was a giant marine reptile which thrived from much of the Mesozoic era. They evolved in the mid Triassic from a group of unidentified land reptiles which transition back into the water. This line evolved in parallel to the ancestors of todays dolphins and whales, something known as convergent evolution.
