2.15" Agate Replaced Brachiopod Mounted On Shale - Ohio

This is a large brachiopod fossil of the species Paraspirifer bownockeri that has been replaced with agate. It comes from the Devonian aged Silica Formation in Lucas County, Ohio. The quarries where these brachiopods used to be found are now closed to collectors so they are much harder to acquire.

The brachiopod is quite large for the species and in excellent condition. It has been mounted to a piece of shale to create an aesthetic display.
