2.1" Fossil Alligator Dermal Scute - Florida

This is a beautifully preserved fossil dermal scute of an alligator, collected from Florida. The scute is from an alligator that lived during the Pleistocene epoch, making them approximately 1.1 - 1.7 million years old. Dermal scutes are bony plates that underly the scales on crocodiles.

Scutes of Alligator mississippiensis are the most common on the market, however we cannot independently verify that these scutes are of this species.
