17.4" Pleistocene Aged Fossil Bison Scapula Bone - Kansas
This is a 17.4" long scapula from a Pleistocene aged fossil bison (Bison occidentalis), collected from the Alluvium Sand of Northwestern Kansas. This would be from the right (anatomically) side of the bison. There is some fracturing along the distal end of the bone, with glue stabilization in spots where the cracks are along thin bone.
Comes with a display stand.
Bison occidentalis is an extinct species of bison that roamed North America between the Pleistocene and Holocene. They were a smaller species of bison in comparison to other's during and prior to their time. It's believed B. occidentalis evolved from B. antiquus and became extinct as a result of competition with other grass eaters.
