15.3" Fossil Tortoise (Stylemys) With Visible Limb Bones - Wyoming

This is a large, 15.3" fossil tortoise (Stylemys nebrascensis) from the Brule Formation in Wyoming. It is inflated though it has undergone some crushing as a result of geologic processes during fossilization. Some of the plates along the edges have been repaired and remounted back to the shell. Partial limb bones of the tortoise have been exposed from the rock in openings where the legs and head would have been.

The dimensions of this specimen are 15.3 x 11.7 x 5.2" and it weighs just under 33 lbs.
