12.1" Sauropod Dinosaur (Diplodocus) Caudal Vertebra - Colorado

This is a 12.1" tall, sauropod dinosaur (Diplodocus sp.) caudal vertebra collected this past fall from our partner's quarry East of Dinosaur, Colorado. This hefty vertebra is well prepared and comes with a custom metal stand for display. The spinous process has quite a bit of restoration, but this is typical for large pieces after they have been extracted from the ground. However, there is only about 5% of the centrum that is restored. Repairs and preparation were completed by a team of experts to ensure the lasting integrity of the piece.

One of the best-known sauropods, Diplodocus was a very large long-necked quadrupedal animal with a long, whip-like tail. It could reach up to 115 feet in length but had a relatively small skull, and a mouth full of small peg-like teeth.
