10.3" Tyrannosaur Cervical Vertebra - Two Medicine Formation
This is an exceptionally well preserved, 10.3" tall, Tyrannosaur cervical (neck) vertebra, collected from our partner's private lease on the Two Medicine Formation of Pondera County, Montana. There is some compaction, but overall the bone quality is excellent and many of the anatomical features are intact. The rock has been meticulously removed from the bone to expose all of the intricate details of this phenomenal specimen. It displays nicely on the custom metal display stand.
Measurements:
Height - 10.3"
Width - 8.6"
Centrum thickness - 2.9"
Height on stand - 11.7"
The collector of this piece had labeled it as Gorgosaurus, but it may also be from the closely related Albertosaurus. Isolated vertebrae of these two Tyrannosaurs would be nearly indistinguishable.
There is restoration superior to the neural canal, primarily in the form of gap fill where the bone crumbled away within cracks. Overall, the bone preservation is excellent and required relatively little restoration.

About The Two Medicine Formation
The Two Medicine Formation is a geographical formation in Central Montana and Southern Alberta, Canada. The formation is predominantly sandstone laid down by rivers and deltas during the Campanian Age of the Cretaceous, about 80-75 million years ago. Approximately two thousand feet thick on the western edge, it lies on top of the Virgelle Sandstone formation and under the Bearpaw Shale. It is located between the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains and the Sweetgrass Arch, a tectonic fold feature 40-90 miles east of the Front Range.
The Two Medicine is the same age as the Judith River Formation found further east. It was laid down further inland from the Western Interior Seaway, while the Judith River Formation was deposited along the coast. The Two Medicine contains much of the same dinosaur fauna, but fewer reptiles, amphibians, and aquatic fossils.
