1.5" Fossil Monocot Flower - Green River Formation, Wyoming

This is a beautifully preserved 1.5" wide monocot flower fossil from the Green River Formation. There is a repaired crack running through this specimen. The pieces comes with an acrylic display stand.

While the formation is best known for its exquisitely preserved fossil fish, terrestrial plants are sometimes also found washed into the lake. Monocots are angiosperms in which the major veins run parallel to each other along the length of the leaf and are commonly known as tube flowers. There are several families of these flowers known from the Green River Formation, many of them yet to be described.
