1.4" Tyrannosaur Premax Tooth in Rock With Stand - Montana
This is a 1.4" Tyrannosaur tooth in sandstone that was collected from the Two Medicine Formation of Montana. There are some natural fractures through the enamel of the tooth, however there is no indication of any repair to the tooth itself. The enamel along one edge of the tooth has worn away, along with the serrations on that side of the tooth. The opposite side of the tooth shows wonderful serration preservation. The tip of the tooth is feeding worn and the sandstone around the tooth has been stabilized with glue to ensure structural integrity of the entire specimen.

Three species of tyrannosaur have been described from the Two Medicine & Judith River Formations: Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus. Research done on teeth from these three tyrannosaurs has concluded that isolated teeth are statistically impossible to assign to a specific genus because they are so similar.
