FOSSIL STINGRAYS FROM GREEN RIVER FORMATION FOR SALE

Probably the finest stingray fossils in the world come from the Green River Formation in Wyoming. While most people associate the bottom-dwelling stingray with marine environments, they were also found in the ancient freshwater lakes which covered parts of the state some 50 million years ago. Two species of prehistoric stingray can be found in the Green River Formation: Heliobatus radians and the much rarer Asterotrygon maloneyi (also known as a fat-tailed ray). These fossil rays are possibly the most sought fossil fish found in the quarries near Kemmerer due to their elegant cartilaginous structures.
