Whole Unopened Las Choyas Geodes - 3.5 to 3.75"

If you want us to crack the geodes for you with a specialized geode cracker, please make a note of it in the instructions field during checkout. If you don't, we will assume you want to receive them uncracked.

Experience the thrill of opening your own geode and being the first person to glimpse the glimmering crystal treasures inside. These are whole, unopened Las Choyas geodes, also known as coconut geodes. They range from about 3.5 to 3.75" in diameter and can contain a variety of quartz and other minerals. The quartz crystals range from clear to smoky to rarely amethyst crystals. Many secondary minerals such as goethite, hematite, mordenite, calcite, and galena may also be present in some geodes.

Obviously, we can't tell you what will be inside of your geode. We've selected less dense geodes that have the highest likelihood of having larger hollow cavities. Approximately 95% of them will be hollow. All photos are representative, and are NOT the specific geodes you will receive.

You can either receive them unbroken or we can crack them for you with a special geode cracker. Using a geode cracker will result in a much cleaner break and less chance of fracturing than trying to open them with a hammer. If you have us crack them for you, we'll rubber band them, so you can still be the first to open them up.

Geodes are rounded, hollow voids in rocks filled with crystals and other minerals. They are typically formed when air bubbles inside of volcanic rock form cavities. Over time, as mineral-rich water seeps into the void, it begins to deposit tiny crystals on the sides of the cavity. After millions of years, the flow of water gradually builds crystals inside the empty space.

Las Choyas geodes, often referred to as "coconut geodes", are mined from 100 to 200 feet below the surface near Chihuahua, Mexico. Shafts are drilled down to the geode-bearing white clay, then tunnels are dug horizontally to extract the geodes.
