1.9" Polished Ruby Zoisite Worry Stone

These are polished worry stones made from ruby zoisite. Under shortwave ultraviolet light, the rubies exhibit a vibrant red fluorescence. The pictures are representative of the specimen(s) you will receive, so there may be some variation in patterns and color. They average 1.9" wide, though some may be slightly larger or smaller.

Technically a metamorphic rock, ruby zoisite or anyolite is a naturally occurring combination of both ruby and zoisite crystals in a single stone. Zoisite provides the earthy green color, while ruby inclusions give the stone pink or red highlights. It often also contains black streaks of the mineral Pargasite.

Ruby zoisite is found in only a single area bordering Kenya and Tanzania near Mount Kilimanjaro. It was discovered in 1954 by an English prospector who initially thought he had found a massive deposit of rubies. Upon closer inspections the rubies within the zoisite proved to be opaque and not suitable as gemstones.

Worry stones are smooth, polished stones, usually in the shape of an oval, with a thumb-sized indentation. They are often used by people for relaxation or anxiety relief purposes, the same way as some people use a fidget spinner. Typically, worry stones are 1 1/2 to 2 inches across. They may also be referred to as palm stones, thumb stones, fidget stones, etc.
