DUMORTIERITE (JEWELRY)

Dumortierite is a striking blue to violet mineral known for its rich color and fibrous to prismatic crystal habit. Although commonly blue, it can also occur in shades of pink, green, brown, or even colorless, depending on the trace elements present. Dumortierite often forms as fibrous or radiating needle-like aggregates embedded within quartz or as inclusions, giving the host quartz a unique blue or purplish tint, known as dumortierite quartz. It is prized for its durability and hardness, ranking around 7–8 on the Mohs scale, which makes it suitable for use in various decorative items and gemstones, especially when cut into cabochons or beads. Its distinctive color, combined with its durability, makes dumortierite a popular choice for jewelry and ornamental pieces.
