AERINITE SPECIMENS
Aerinite is a rare purple-blue silicate mineral found almost exclusively in eastern Spain around the Pyrenees Mountains. Its name comes from the Greek word "aerinos", which means sky-blue. An apt name for such a striking color!
It is most famous for its use as a pigment in Romanesque murals and paintings around Andorra, Spain, and France, dating back to the 12th century. It forms as compact fibrous masses that can be easily ground to powder.
