PINK AMETHYST FROM ARGENTINA SPECIMENS
These pink amethyst geodes are a relatively new find from the Choique Mine in Argentina. It's a bit of a conundrum as to what to technically call them! Amethyst almost by definition is purple, but according to analysis at the California Institute of Technology it was described as:
"purplish pink amethystine quartz additionally coloured by microscopic hematite particles. They are not rose quartz or pink quartz as classically defined".
Chemically, this is amethyst, yet it's not purple in color. We're going to label it as pink amethyst for now!
