Large Asaphus Kowalewskii Trilobite - 3.05"
This is a large, prone specimen of the long, stalk-eyed trilobite Asaphus kowalewskii. It is Middle Ordovician in age and was collected at the Vilpovitsy quarry in the St. Petersburg region of Russia. The stalk eyes likely allowed to survey it's surroundings while remaining buried in the mud.
It's nicely centered on a sculpted block of limestone.
Like basically all of these Asaphus trilobites there is some restoration, and the amount is pretty typical. There is about 15-20% shell restoration in total, spread out among many small patches where shell flaked or cracks were filled.
