3.35" Fossil Crocodile Dermal Scute - South Carolina

This is a beautifully preserved fossil dermal scute (a bony plate that underlies scales) of an unidentified crocodile, collected from South Carolina. It is likely of either the genera Gavialosuchus or Thecachampsa, though not enough can be gleaned from the specimen alone. It dates to between the end of the Miocene and the Pliocene, anywhere from about 3 to 15 million years old, and displays a unique, lotus-pod effect of large pores across its surface.

This specimen comes with an acrylic display stand.
