1.9" Fossil Reptile Coprolite (Fossil Poop) - Green River Formation
This is a 1.75" long fossil reptile coprolite (fossil poop) from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. It would be either from a turtle or small crocodilian. It was collected this past summer from our Fossil Lake Safari quarry.
About Coprolites
A coprolite is fossilized poop! It’s the preserved remains of an animal's droppings that have undergone mineralization over millions of years. While it might sound a bit gross, coprolites are valuable to paleontologists because they offer insights into the diets, habitats, and even the digestive systems of ancient animals. By examining coprolites, scientists can determine what creatures like dinosaurs, prehistoric fish, or other ancient animals ate, revealing details of ancient ecosystems.
