Fossil Crocodile Egg From France - Eocene

This is a very unusual fossil, it is an Eocene aged fossil Crocodile egg from France. Fossil eggs are extremely rare in the fossil record, so this is quite a unique offering. These were laid on the bank of a lake about 50 million years ago. The rock formation was exposed in a now abandoned quarry and over 44 vertebrate species have been described from the location. There are two described crocodilians from the formation, Allognathosuchus sp and Pristichampus rollinati so the egg could have come from either.
